A Walk in York

A Walk in York

Over the past year, during the pandemic, I’ve picked up a new digital skill: making ArcGIS StoryMaps. I have no background in ArcGIS or cartography, but I’ve really enjoyed learning how to use ArcGIS StoryMaps. This program is amazing – you can create stories that combine text, images, interactive maps, and more – and really elevates your digital storytelling. I’ve made several StoryMaps as practice, in order to learn the platform and explore everything it has to offer. Now, I’m finally ready to share a StoryMap with the wider world!

My StoryMap, A Walk in … York, combines three of my favorite things: history, travel, and the city of York. I was lucky enough to live in York for six months while studying for my MA in cultural heritage management at the University of York (before the pandemic sent me home to the United States). I created this StoryMap in order to share the beauty of York’s historic buildings and the fascinating history of this city.

I hope you enjoy your “walk” through York! Perhaps you will gain some inspiration for a future trip to England – York is definitely worth several days of your time.
